All aspects of this no good very bad day are partly due to our negligence and irresponsibility! Some of this is actually related to the previous day. That is, on Day 65, Greg lost his debit card. He left it in an ATM at a Michigan bank. It was then sucked into the machine. No worries, right? At least we knew where it was.
So, this morning, we called the bank to explain the situation. They did have the card, but, even though Greg could easily prove he is who he is, they said it was MasterCard policy that the card be destroyed. DESTROYED.
That was pretty much our only access to the entire trip fund!
However, after phone calls to mom and many bank visits later, it was all straightened out.
We arrived to Hamilton in the evening ready to get a bite to eat and shack up in our AirBnB. This place was only used to rent out - the owner did not live there. It wasn't the best place in the world, but it was cheap.
Then, due to some miscommunication, we locked ourselves out of our room. The reason we left the room was to get our own toilet paper because this place didn't have any, but whatever. We called the owner, no answer. We messaged him, and he quickly replied: "Uh oh..."
Long story short, he didn't have a spare key nearby and was out of town. He told us to try using a 18 foot ladder to get in the room and if that didn't work, we could get a refund. He also said someone could get is in there the next day (after some negotiating), as we had the place booked for two nights.
The ladder was too flimsy, so we had to drive around the greater Toronto area looking for a place to stay on the Saturday of 4th of July weekend all while Amy's phone and Greg's computer were locked in some stranger's house.
So, not a good day.
We eventually found a Motel 6 after calling ~30 places that were all booked.
Yikes.
Never did figure out what was going on here on our drive |
Here we go! |
Nice bridge, eh? |
Again, not a whole lot to show... |
Our room before we locked ourselves out |
Attempt to get back in |
Finally eating after driving around for hours. Not very happy! |
But we made it work! |
One folly after another.....Debit card mishap, toilet paper lock-out, negligence, weak ladders ROAD TRIP....Eh?
