Day 13 - Big Bend National Park

We are out of shape. This was made clear when we hiked the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. The map is a lot flatter than the actual land... It took us about 5 hours to reach the campsite, and it got especially difficult in the afternoon when it was about 95 degrees without a cloud in the sky! As Amy said, "Chisos" must mean "F*** you" in English.

Still, we don't regret it! There is no way to describe the beauty of this park, including this section in particular. When Greg wasn't whining about how heavy his pack was, there was not a sound to be heard besides the distant call of birds and a subtle, much appreciated breeze. We've never experienced such silence.

After we set up camp, we hiked a couple miles to the South Rim of the mountains, which is considered the main attraction of this loop. It certainly made everything worth it. And to think, we almost didn't do it because we were so exhausted!

  1. Did she cook the deer or the bird? Majestic scene, proud of the hikers.
