Day 18 - Rocky Mountain National Park and The Stanley

From Denver, we drove to Estes Park where the legendary Stanley Hotel is located. Many spooky stories come from this historic building, including the inspiration for Stephen King's The Shining. The story goes that Mr. King was the only guest of the hotel sometime in the 70s when he awoke from a dream that his 3-year old son was being chased through the corridors. This sparked him to move to Colorado to write the story we now all know and love.

We splurged a bit to stay here because we are big fans of The Shining, and it is a beautiful place nonetheless. Estes Park is much busier than we expected, but it is actually an adorable town right on the edge of a massive natural wonder. Before we checked in, we had a great time exploring Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

Later, we did a ghost tour through the hotel. Spoooooooooky.

  1. Now that's a hotel 10/10, I stayed there before I perished on the Titanic. Amy's dinner is the best looking food picture on the Road Blog
