Day 10 - Lassen Volcanic and Redwoods

We spent the first half of this day hanging out at Lassen Volcanic. We had breakfast by Manzanita Lake while waiting for the kayak rentals to open. We rented a double kayak to check out the sights from the lake, including Lassen Peak towering over the campground. It was a beautiful morning to kayak. The sun was warm, the water was cool, and there was a light but constant breeze. After kayaking out a bit, we were able to turn around and see Lassen Peak staring us in the face. Due to tree coverage from the shore, you can't even tell it is there.

The visitor center was closed when we'd arrived yesterday, so after kayaking we checked out the exhibit and film. It was a very nice film. We left Lassen Volcanic and drove to Whiskeytown National Recreation Center, but we got a little lost along the way. It all worked out, because we got to see a beautiful lake and have a great lunch at Black Bear Diner! We drove through Whiskeytown towards Redwood National and State Parks where we had a campsite in Elk Prairie for the night.
