Day 22 - San Diego

We stayed near the Los Angeles Harbor last night, so we woke up and hit the road for San Diego. Since the Phillies had a day game, we stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings to catch some innings. The Phillies couldn't score any runs and lost. Next, we drove to Cabrillo National Monument, a beautiful shoreline that marks the spot that Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, the first European to step foot on the west coast of the United States, landed in 1542. Sadly, this monument closed early and we only had about 20 minutes to explore.

The main event for today was the Padres and Cubs game at Petco Park. Petco Park was one of our favorite ballparks so far. The park was built to incorporate the Western Metal Supply Co. building, which was declared a National Landmark. The whole aesthetic of the stadium is really neat. New to the stadium in the last few years is the Park in the Park. The park is a grassy slope beyond the outfield wall where fans can lay out on blankets and watch the game. There is even a jumbotron airing the game. It is one of the coolest features that we have seen in a ballpark! We had great seats on a beautiful night for baseball. Cubs fans invaded Petco Park and definitely outnumbered the Padres fans. The Padres lost, but it was still a great night!
