Day 14 - San Francisco

Today we spent the morning exploring San Francisco's waterfront. We began at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Site. This site had a great museum, one of the best we have seen in a National Park Site thus far! It was interesting to learn about the history of San Fran and the importance of the waterfront. We then checked out Hyde St. Pier to see some historical ships that are part of the Maritime National Historic Site. We walked down to Fisherman's Wharf to check out the sites and eventually ventured off to a cafe for some brunch.

After some yummy pancakes, we drove over to see the Golden Gate Bridge from Crissy Field. We then walked over to Fort Point to do some exploring. We were lucky that we were visiting on a Friday, because the fort is only open Friday-Sunday. Fort Point was built right before the American Civil War in order to defend the San Francisco Bay. We were able to wander around and explore the exhibits at our own pace, which was really neat. It was finally time to leave San Francisco, so after exploring Fort Point we headed out on the road to San Luis Obispo to prepare ourselves for our camping trip at the Channel Islands.
